The end of a weekend off

September 28, 2009

Well, it’s Sunday night. As you can likely tell from the title I’ve been off for the last couple days (Saturday and Sunday to be specific). And let me tell you! I cherish everytime this happens. It pretty rare, which I’m okay with (I value them more that way). They make for a long week beforehand, but it’s always worth it.

Sat:
Got up pretty early (for a day off, that is) and went shopping with Amiee in Anderson. Always great to spend time with my lovely wife, no matter what we’re doing together. Of course, I got a little Metroid Prime Trilogy in before we left. She bought a dress, I found a pair of pants, which is good if you’re trying to avoid going outside with out pants (people threw garbage at me when I tried that). After we got home from that we laid around for a few minutes, then to Kayla and Mike’s wedding (congrats to you both again!). I love weddings, people occasionally have cool new takes on old traditions. Not always, big things but unique. In this wedding had Kayla wearing cowboy boots at the reception and instead of a normal frame they had pictures in a window frame, I thought that was pretty cool. From there we went home using directions we got from the GPS on my phone, well earlier since we were in a cellular void for T-Mobile And AT&T. Unfortunately, we were EXHAUSTED and didn’t realize when the Clemson game was and and we got stuck for a few minutes in game traffic……… gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Clemson. Not too long though 20-30 minutes. But still, when you’re tried it seem much longer. Got home, took Boo out and finally passed-out in bed.

Sun:
Sunday has been nice! Slept in a little longer than normal since we had Ainley’s dedication at Calvary COG and their service starts a little later than Amiee and my church. It was fun, I got to film it for Chris And Megan (my siblings-in-law). I think I did well, but what do I know? We went to Applebee’s after (2 for $20, gotta love it!). Then home. Haven’t done much today other than a little cleaning a beat Metroid Prime 2: Echos (I’d swear they made it easier for the trilogy), it made for a nice relaxing day and a nice conclusion to the weekend.

That’s about all I got for this update. Back to work tomorrow…….. ah, such is life.

The exasperations of life and TV

September 23, 2009

First, let me just say how glad I am that I didn’t promise this to be a daily blog! We can all see how well that would’ve worked out. I will say to my readers that I will update when I can, be that daily or weekly. I will do my best to do at least four per month. And with that out of the way on to the update.

I love my puppy, Boo, he’s a good boy. But lately he’s being a bit bitey. I understand it’s how he shows affection but the little guy’s got some teeth! Normally he just goes for hands or feet (just mine and Amiee’s, thankfully), but last night I was playing with him and he got a little too close to my face. So, he sees my nose, and hey, it’ll fit in his mouth so that MUST be where it goes! Yeah, as if I didn’t look odd enough, Boo tried to bite my nose off. On top of that, when I come down stairs after getting dressed for work this morning I find that “he couldn’t wait to go outside” all over the kitchen floor. And pulled his kennel all through it too. I had to spend 15 to 20 minutes practically mopping the floor and cleaning the underside of his kennel. But even with the cleaning up after him and losing limbs to his insatiable (sp?) appetite, I still love the little monster!

Lately, at work I’ve been noticing more and more customers coming in with this inexplicable sense of entitlement. It can only be tranced back (as far as I can tell) to one of several causes:
1) the economy
2) the American cell phone market
Or
3) the general public’s ridiculous stupidity
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling everyone stupid (though we all have our moments). But. these customers I’m refering to seem to think that because they pay their bill I need to bow-down, kiss their feet and give them EVERYTHING they want for free. At the point of upgrade eligibility they can get some great discounts off handsets, but the My Touch 3G still won’t be free. And no, the phone won’t include the $130 jawbone for free either. It’s not that I don’t want to help people, but these things carry a cost. On top of that T-Mobile is like every company out there, they exist to make money. And I have a job to utimately do the same.

The new seasons of several shows Amiee and I watch started this week! YAY! But after looking at my DVR schedule for the next week, I’ve come to the conclusion that I watch too much TV. Between the shows I like and the shows Amiee likes (and I like to watch with her) we easily record more than a dozen shows per week! Maybe it’s time to axe those precedural-cop-shows…. Anyways, to give my readers an idea of how bad it is;
I record
-CSI (all 3)
-NCIS
-NCIS LA (though, after watching the 1st episode we won’t be recording anymore)
-Smallville
-Big Bang Theory
-How I Met Your Mother
And that’s only the hand full I can think of off the top of my head, as I am at work as I write this. There are plenty beyond that short list (which is only about 2 days worth anyway). I need to engage in more physical activities…..

This update may sound rather whiney, but I do love my job (and having a job for that matter!) and my puppy is great. Just needed a moment to vent. Besides, it’s new-comic-day! My favorite day of every week, and no matter what happens it’s going to be great day (even if it wasn’t new-comic-day ;-P)!

1st post!

September 20, 2009

Well, I finally started the blog I’ve talking about starting for a while. I plan on doing what most people on a blog, talking about life in general. Also, since I’m such a power-dork, I’ll be talking about some of my interests like comics and technology. So, to all joining me on this journey; “enjoy!”

We had our third week of puppy training today. Boo (our three month-old collie-retriever-chow mix) learned loose-leash walking and leave-it/take-it. Both of which he will need practice to master. But hopefully, with time, he’ll start leaving our sandles alone.
Not too long ago Motorola announced the Moto CLIQ, their 1st android device. It’s set to release some time in the next couple months (I’m thinking between late Oct and early Nov for the holiday rush). Most people I’ve spoken about phones with may remember I’m not a fan of Motorola. However, after seeing/reading several hands-on reviews from the conference I’m more excited for a motorola cell phone than now than I’ve ever been before. Motorola also added their own piece of Motorola specific programing called MotoBlur. What MotoBlur does is makes the Moto CLIQ interact with social networks better than any other phone before it! And on top of that it works well (according to those hands-on reviews I mentioned before). To give my readers an idea of how well the Moto CLIQ interacts with social networks, during the demo they had a call come in and it had the caller’s facebook update below the caller id pic. While that in and of itself isn’t ground-breaking, it’s only one way that the Moto CLIQ works with social networks. While this may read a bit like an ad for the phone (and I am, admittedly, very excited for the phone), I do realize that the phone is a Motorola. By that I mean, I’ve only seen 1 motorola phone in recent memory that was anything above a “meh.” It very well could suffer from most or all the same flaws that plauged every phone built anything like the RAZR (that would be about every motorola phone made in the last 5+ years). I guess we’ll see in about a month or so. And, here’s hoping T-Mobile will make me the new android-champion for my store (I could get the phone for free)!

Hello world!
